Undertaken especially as a fund raising project to benefit 1985 GSL Champion Rick Somerlot, this Monogram ‘40 Ford Convertible features gobs of hand rubbed, clearcoated Ford Performance Red lacquer covering a shaved and smoothed body with bumpers, windshield wipers and windshield center post removed, headlights frenched and contoured to the body, and parking lights and tail lights flush mounted. The flathead engine, rear axle, driveshaft and other suspension components are coated with Gold Frost Pewter Metallic lacquer, the last custom color formulated by Cobra Colors and never offered for sale. It’s been wired with Detail Master ignition wiring and also features a braided oil line. There’s also a Model Car Garage radiator cap up front and Parts by Parks flared megaphone exhaust tips at the rear. All mold lines, sink marks and impressions have been removed from every surface area of the model including all of the chrome plated parts which have been stripped and refinished with Alclad Chrome lacquer. The interior is finished with a custom blend of Tamiya Desert Yellow, White & Flat White paints with the floor and side door panels flocked with Ken’s Kustom Fuzzi-Fur. The door handles and window cranks are Replicas & Miniatures Co. of Maryland cast resin items added for extra detail. Auctioned on eBay, this model sold for $285 and was also responsible for garnering another $125 in charitable donations. Thanks to everyone who participated! |
